1. Pre-reading: Reading is the teacher's guidance before students read freely. Teachers can properly explain some background knowledge related to the reading materials according to the contents, help students understand the contents of the reading materials and stimulate students' interest in obtaining information.
2. Scanning: Skipping is determined by the reading purpose. When skipping, students don't need to know the material in detail, but only need to know the basic information of the reading material, and ask them to browse the whole article consciously and purposefully, and grasp the main idea or content. You can skip the unimportant content.
3. Skimming: Reading guidance is to find some specific information from the reading materials. Skipping is that students know nothing about the reading material in advance, while scanning is carried out under the condition of knowing something about the reading material. When scanning, students are required to find relevant information within a few minutes, that is, to complete the reading task set by the teacher.
4. Intensive reading: The primary task of intensive reading is to clear language barriers. After the previous skipping and scanning, students have an overall understanding of the general idea of the reading material, but the meaning of some sentences and words, that is, the details, is still not very clear. At this time, it is necessary for teachers to give careful guidance to students. Intensive reading can cultivate students' good study habits of accurately understanding the meaning of words and correctly using language; Careful reading can capture the meaning of every word, phrase and sentence in the context, which is especially important for understanding the full text.

First, consolidate vocabulary teaching and improve reading efficiency
Vocabulary is the smallest unit of language expression. No word is not a sentence, and no sentence is unwritten. To understand a sentence, we must first understand the meaning; To read an article, you must understand the meaning of the sentence. The results show that when the number of new words in an article exceeds 5%, it will affect reading. Therefore, we must do a good job in vocabulary teaching, constantly expand students' vocabulary, and eliminate obstacles that affect students' reading.
Second, learn quantifiers and understand meaning to speed up reading.
There are several ways to guess the meaning of a word:
1. Use contextual clues: learn to use various clues provided by context: clues of definition, clues of explanation, clues of comparison and contrast to determine the meaning of words;
2. Use morpheme clues: analyze the meaning of affixes to help determine the meaning of words. Do you like the word unhappy ;

Cultural background knowledge is one of the factors that affect reading. If it is a story that students have experienced or are familiar with, they can often associate, migrate, guess and infer with their own life experiences, so reading comprehension is better.
1. In classroom teaching, I introduce all the cultural background knowledge to students, so that students can accurately and profoundly understand the meaning of the article in complex social and cultural situations.
2. When dealing with some idioms, compare their cultural background with local culture as much as possible. If Chinese says love me, love my dog, English means "love me, love my dog".
3. Hold some competitions in cross-cultural communication in spare time, so that students can learn more about the cultural background knowledge of Britain and America, such as their life values, ways of thinking, moral standards, customs, social etiquette, lifestyle and so on. In the process of learning English 5A Unit8 "At Christmas" in Yilin Primary School, I specially introduced the knowledge of Halloween and Christmas, so as to let students know something about western festivals and leave a preliminary impression. I also encourage students to study hard and have the opportunity to go abroad and experience the rich life abroad in the future.
Fourth, increase extracurricular reading and cultivate reading ability.
First of all, teachers can guide students when they choose to read publications, and help them choose publications with their current English level. Extensive reading can not only help students develop a good sense of English language, but also increase their grammar knowledge and vocabulary. Secondly, in the process of reading teaching, teachers should pay attention to cultivating students to master good reading methods and let students strive to improve their reading speed; Try to broaden your horizons when reading, and gradually change from "point reading" to "line reading" and then to "face reading".
