How to effectively implement English listening and reading assignments in primary schools
Xujiadian Central Primary School Yutianhua
The focus of English teaching in primary schools is spoken English. There are few English classes. How to give full play to the role of homework and make students achieve standard pronunciation and natural pronunciation and intonation? This has become a topic of concern to English teachers. The English homework assigned by the general teacher is: attending classes, listening to tapes and reading the text repeatedly. However, the completion of such homework is not ideal. It is impossible for a teacher to know whether every student has finished his listening and reading homework. The homework is just a dummy, which is also a difficult problem for our teacher.
Faced with this actual situation, we have made many attempts, such as writing letters to parents, asking them to understand and support our work. Parents help us supervise the students to listen to the tape at home, but most of the families around us come from the countryside. Judging from parents' time and energy, parents can't persist in the busy farming season; A record sheet was designed, and students could not stick to their listening homework. Of course, this table is useless. At the end of each module and unit, students need to record reading tapes. Some students have no desire to listen, which leads to inaccurate pronunciation and intonation. Of course, they are also ashamed to record with their mouths open, and only half of the students in the class have finished. Some students don't have tape recorders at all because of family conditions or parents' understanding of English learning; And so on. These reasons make our listening, reading and recording work ineffective.
This semester, we have carried out profound teaching and research on this work, explored more effective ways to continue to strengthen this work, and strived to make pure English text recording really play a role and help students learn and develop their spoken English. Members of our teaching and research group agree that in order to achieve results, we must pay close attention to implementation, and at the same time, we must take into account the ways and means of work, because monotonous and mechanical repeated listening and reading can easily make students feel tired, and it is not a good idea to rely solely on parental supervision. Interest is the source of power for all activities, and we must find ways to maintain this source. Therefore, when designing listening, reading and recording assignments, we should consider students' interests and change "I want to learn" into "I want to learn", so that our work can be done easily. First, when listening to the recording
1) Generally, I arrange to go home to listen to lectures and read books after studying. At this time, we will arrange this: please go home and listen to the recording and try to imitate the pronunciation and intonation of the recording. At the beginning of the next class, we will choose "Today's Reading Star". (We will write the name of "Little Star" on the class blackboard for a week, and reward the class Red Garden with five little red flowers. This not only maintains the "enthusiasm" of students, but also checks the homework.
The teacher did it. After class, the group leader will organize a group to select students who have studied well to take part in the course selection. The selected group of "Today's Reading Star" has the right to select two people to participate in the next class selection. ) 2) When previewing, we will arrange this: Please go home and listen to the recording and try to imitate the pronunciation and intonation of the recording. A good boy who successfully previews is qualified to be "today's little teacher" in the next English class.
Second, when recording.
When recording, we also think about how to make students take the initiative to do it. When we assigned the recording homework before, we found that one third of the students could not hand it in for one reason or another. We can adjust students' mentality and make them want to show their desire when assigning tasks: let them become "radio hosts" and host English programs. Students will be willing to try and participate in recording activities. After the recording, an "excellent English radio column" was set up in the last five minutes of several English classes to show the tapes recorded by excellent recording students, which made us turn the recording homework into a "recording homework" and the students were happy to participate in this "career". Similarly, "excellent small radio" will also receive a small red flower and a week's "posting list" reward.
The third is to increase inspection and feedback.
Every recording is like an oral test and oral presentation. Pronunciation problems can be found at any time and corrected in time through inspection. If the teacher is too busy, you can call on the help of "Reading Little Star" and "Youxiao Broadcasting" to correct your pronunciation in time. Allow students to re-record.
The teacher brought the tapes recorded by the students to the class to play, appreciate each other and communicate with each other. This will also play an inspiring role. In order to show my oral English better, I will naturally take the initiative to listen to tapes and imitate exercises to achieve the best results. On the one hand, students have developed the habit of consciously studying at home; On the other hand, it also improves students' reading level by comparing with each other, making students relaxed and happy in homework, study and doing. However, this practice may hurt students with weak self-esteem, so it is suitable for operation when the oral English level of the class is relatively high and "fully blossoming".
